About us
John Waibel
From young travelin’ man to guesthouse in Malawi operator, from fisherman to kayak outfit, John has traveled the globe and brings much, je ne sais quoi, Quadra-Island-Kayak flair to the scene at the Yak Shak. He attempts to be punctual but don’t be fooled, when he says he’ll meet you at noon, make plans to meet at the Yak Shak and reflect on a cup of coffee before. JD has a propensity for making friends laugh hard on bike rides, for remaining calm during high speed matatu trips, and narrowly missing chimpanzees in UN vehicles. Meet this man.
Jane West
Jane brings a genius’ touch to the Quadra Island Kayak family. With her experience as a wilderness education guide and Outward Bound instructor, Jane keeps the wheels running and the chocolate cakes gourmet, (namely, for my birthday). You won’t spend a minute uninspired when paddling with Jane. With her flaming red hair and keen knowledge of green home building and chainsaw –ing, this is a woman to know. Just make sure you ask her about duct taping people to trees, chocobananes, managing risk in the wilderness (she can put you in one effective drainage position). She excels in spirit expression and speed at the Quadrathon, and has recently been heralded a pizza making mastermind and human phenomenon.
