Safety
Our day tours operation was initially founded in 1997 and since then we have been offering paddlers professional, safe and memorable experiences. Formerly under the name Spirit of the West Adventures we evolved in 2006 and grew into our new name QUADRA ISLAND KAYAKS. Our day tours operation has grown yearly to now be a fleet of thirty plus seats and a household name around Quadra Island with our accessibility and ability to get people out on the water.
The office and retail operations take place out of our shop located in Heriot Bay on the east side of Quadra Island. Being a company owned and operated by three local paddlers we are able to offer kayaking tours year round (weather permitting).
Our fleet is made up of single and double kayaks. We use mostly Current Designs, Necky or Boreal Designs. They are plastic ocean touring kayaks which work well for our rugged and rocky coastline. Each paddler out on the water with us is fitted with all the proper safety and paddling equipment. We carry paddle floats, pumps, and throw ropes on each boats and guides have an array of guiding gear with them including first aid kit, VHF radio, emergency procedure plans, extra clothing and sometimes even chocolate!
Guides working for QUADRA ISLAND KAYAKS are trained in wilderness first aid and certified with the British Columbia Sea Kayak Guides Alliance. Many of our guides working with QUADRA ISLAND KAYAKS are long time paddlers who have years of experience in this area. Weather you are on the water with one of our ancient and well seasoned guides (like Terry!) or with a younger certified guide in our industry… rest assured, your in good hands.
With over ten years experience locally here on Quadra Island offering several tours a day with thousands of happy paddlers exploring in the area… were happy to say we haven’t lost one yet… J
